A Map of Things to Come

The earth is still dry and brown, but there are signs of life in the leaf litter and on the gray branches of trees. Buds, which formed in fall and have hidden all winter under protective armor, are swelling. When the moment is ripe, they will burst forth. So much of our lives, we worry about timing, and what we should be doing, about what is left to do in the time allotted. In this season of revival and hope, I like to remember that some things lie hidden, like wrinkled green leaves within a wizened bud, ready for the right moment to stir. And we don’t always know when that moment will be.
